Review

Never mind the iPhone, if you want real connectivity, whether its email, social networking sites or IM, you need a Blackberry. The Bold 9000 is being superceded as I write, by the Bold 9700. If you must have the latest handset, or you are bothered about its size, then go ahead. Otherwise, welcome to the best BB RIM have yet made. Apart from anything else, the 9000 is far better made than its replacement, and much easier to type on. The best (bar none) QUERTY keyboard in the business, allied to excellent graphics and class-leading e-mail, whats not to like.

Suggested additional features

The battery life isn't what it needs to be, especially if you browse a lot. It synchs well with iTunes, but you will need an 8 or 16 GB memory card to make full use. If you are in a 3G area, this is where the Bold comes into its own, from a media handling standpoint. However, it would benefit from some form of cut-down Flash player to optimise the media experience.

Hints and tips for other owners

Buy a couple of cheapie aftermarket batteries on eBay. If you want a smaller form factor, there are two other QUERTY BBs. The slightly larger size makes typing a breeze.
